Democratic U.S. Senator Al Gore won reelection to a second term in a landslide, sweeping every county in the state. As of 2022, this was the last time the Democrats won a U.S. Senate election in Tennessee, and also the most recent U.S. Senate election in Tennessee in which several counties, including Knox County and Hamilton County, went to the Democratic candidate.
