Gegründet im Jahr 2003, mit Sitzen in Mailand und Turin, setzt es sich für klassisch liberale Überzeugungen in Italien und ganz Europa ein. Laut dem Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2017, einem Ranking der Universität von Pennsylvania, kommt die Organisation auf Rang 130. aller Think-Tanks weltweit und ist somit das 108. unter den Think-Tanks außerhalb der Vereinigten Staaten und das 72. I fondatori sono stati Carol Erickson, Franco Forlin, Sergio Leali, Carlo Lottieri, Alberto Mingardi, e Tito Tettamanti. L'istituto, che prende il nome da Bruno Leoni, ha sedi a Torino e Milano. L’Istituto Bruno Leoni organizza convegni e seminari in varie città italiane ed europee e pubblica ricerche nell'ambito delle scienze sociali.
