Alexander Henry 'The Elder' (August 1739 – 4 April 1824) was an American-born explorer, author, merchant who settled in Quebec following the Conquest of New France and was a partner in the North West Company and a founding member and vice-chairman of the Beaver Club. From 1763 to 1764, he lived and hunted with Wawatam of the Ojibwe, who had adopted him as a brother.

Trotz mehrerer Rückschläge kam er zu beträchtlichem Vermögen und forderte zeitweise die Hudson’s Bay Company heraus. Er war einer der Händler, die Montréal zur nordamerikanischen Hochburg des Handels mit Fellen und Pelzen machten. Seine Karten erleichterten den Briten den Zugang zum Westen Kanadas, seine Aufzeichnungen sind von größtem ethnologischem Wert über eine an Schriftquellen sonst eher karge Epoche. (de)
