Carl Monroe (February 20, 1960 – April 26, 1989) was a professional American football player who played running back and wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers from 1983 to 1987. Monroe's career highlight came during Super Bowl XIX versus the Miami Dolphins when he caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Joe Montana. He died in 1989 of a suspected accidental valium overdose, while attempting to resurrect his football career in the CFL, and while fighting alcoholism.
