Charles Louis Critchfield (June 7, 1910 – February 12, 1994) was an American mathematical physicist. A graduate of George Washington University, where he earned his PhD in Physics under the direction of Edward Teller in 1939, he conducted research in ballistics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and the Ballistic Research Laboratory at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, and received three patents for improved sabot designs.

Critchfield studierte an der George Washington University Mathematik mit dem Bachelor-Abschluss 1934 sowie dem Master-Abschluss 1936 und wurde dort 1939 bei Edward Teller in Physik promoviert (als dessen erster Doktorand). An der George Washington University traf er auch George Gamow. Als Post-Doktorand war er an der University of Rochester auf Einladung von Victor Weisskopf und ab 1940 als Fellow des National Research Council am Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) bei Eugene Wigner. Danach lehrte er ein Jahr an der Harvard University. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg arbeitete er zunächst in Ballistik am IAS, wo seine Zusammenarbeit mit John von Neuma (de) Чарльз Луис Критчфилд (7 июня 1910 — 12 февраля 1994) — американский физик, специалист по математической физике.
