A Couta boat is a type of sailing boat originally designed and built in Victoria, Australia, around Sorrento, Queenscliff and along Victoria's west coast as far west as Portland. It was originally used as a traditional fishing boat from around 1870 until the 1930s, although it survived as a commercial fishing vessel until the 1950s. From the 1970s onwards a community of enthusiasts started restoring old couta boats to use recreationally.

  • Is éard atá sa bhád cútach (“couta boat”) saghas báid seoil a bhaineann le Victoria na hAstráile, timpeall agus Queenscliff and feadh cósta thiar Victoria chomh fada siar le Portland. Bhí á húsáid mar bhád iascaigh ó thimpeall na bliana 1870 anuas go dtí caogaidí an fichiú haois. Bhí sí láidir agus luath agus bhí acmhainn mhaith farraige aici. (ga)

Bhí á húsáid mar bhád iascaigh ó thimpeall na bliana 1870 anuas go dtí caogaidí an fichiú haois. Bhí sí láidir agus luath agus bhí acmhainn mhaith farraige aici. Bhíodh tóir ar an mbaracútach (“barracouta” - "Thyrsites atun"), iasc nach bhfuil gaol aige leis an m. Chuir comharchumainn cuótaí ar bun chun smacht a choinneáil ar phraghsanna, rud a d’fhág go raibh gá le bád a bhainfeadh an chreach agus an caladh amach gan mhoill. Rachadh na báid amach chun na meá roimh bhreacadh an lae, trí bhealach Phort Philib go minic, caolas garbh a dtugtar An Sruth ("The Rip") air. Nuair a fuair na hiascairí a gcion den iasc d’fhillfidís ar an gcaladh ar an dá luas chun an praghas ab fhearr a fháil. (ga)
