Donna Scott Davenport (born Scott) is the first judge to oversee the Rutherford County, Tennessee juvenile justice system, filling the newly created position in 2000. She is also a former adjunct professor at her alma mater, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). She presides over the juvenile court and legal system for the county, appoints magistrates (formerly, referees), sets protocols, directs police and hears cases involving minors, including parents charged with child neglect. Despite published reports of Davenport operating juvenile court outside of the tenets of law, including her own admissions, the embattled judge remains on the bench, and is scheduled to retire at the end of her current term, in September 2022, while lawmakers debate ending her tenure sooner.
