El material de l'holotip (MLP 26-39, Museo de La Plata, La Plata, Argentina) va ser recuperat de Cañadón Grande, a la província de Chubut de l'Argentina i consisteix en un musell incomplet, incloent la premaxil·la, porcions de les dues maxil·les, el dentari dret i esquerra, moltes dents, un fragment de l'esplenial esquerra, i parts dels supradentaris. - Genyodectes ist eine Gattung theropoder Dinosaurier aus der Gruppe der Ceratosauria. Bisher ist lediglich eine unvollständige Schnauze bekannt, die in der argentinischen Provinz Chubut entdeckt wurde und etwa 112 Millionen Jahre alt ist (Aptium, Unterkreide). Die einzige Art ist Genyodectes serus. Genyodectes wurde bereits 1901 von Arthur Smith Woodward wissenschaftlich beschrieben; somit ist es der erste unzweifelhafte Nicht-Vogel-Theropode, der aus Südamerika beschrieben wurde. Die Gattung zeichnet sich insbesondere durch die im Verhältnis sehr langen Zahnkronen des Oberkiefers aus. (de)

- Per molto tempo i resti di questo dinosauro sono stati ritenuti essere di dubbia identità. Sostanzialmente il ritrovamento, avvenuto nel 1901 in Argentina, consisteva nella parte anteriore delle fauci (mascella e mandibola) con tanto di denti, ma l'orizzonte stratigrafico non era conosciuto, e si presumeva che i resti risalissero al Cretaceo Superiore. - Geniodektes (Genyodectes) – rodzaj teropoda z grupy ceratozaurów (Ceratosauria). Żył we wczesnej kredzie (prawdopodobnie ok. 125-99 mln lat temu) na terenach współczesnej Ameryki Południowej. Jego szczątki znaleziono w Argentynie (w prowincji Chubut), jednak dokładne miejsce znalezienia jest niepewne. Został opisany na podstawie fragmentu szczęki i kilku długich, wąskich zębów. Początkowo zaliczany do tyranozauroidów, później do karnozaurów, a obecnie do ceratozaurów. Genyodectes jest najbardziej podobny do Ceratosaurus, ale różni się od niego plezjomorficzną obecnością czterech zębów w kości przedszczękowej (ceratozaur miał trzy). (pl)

The holotype material (MLP 26–39, Museo de La Plata, La Plata, Argentina) was collected from the Cerro Barcino Formation, Cañadón Grande, Departamento Paso de Indios in the Chubut Province of Argentina and consists of an incomplete snout, including the premaxillae, portions of both maxillas, the right and left dentary, many teeth, a fragment of the left splenial, and parts of the supradentaries. These elements are generally poorly preserved and some are in articulation. The premaxilla of Genyodectes possesses relatively large and protruding teeth, similar to those of Ceratosaurus.
