- Germanus (Greek: Γερμανός; died 550) was an East Roman (Byzantine) general, one of the leading commanders of Emperor Justinian I (r. 527–565). Germanus was Emperor Justinian's cousin, and a member of the ruling dynasty. He held commands in Thrace, North Africa, and the East against Persia, and was slated to command the final Byzantine expedition against the Ostrogoths. Having married into the Gothic Amal royal line through his second wife Matasuntha and a distinguished service record, at the time of his sudden death, he was considered the probable heir to Emperor Justinian. - Germanus (Γερμανός) ou Germain (mort à l'automne 550) est un général byzantin de l'Empire romain d'Orient sous l'empereur Justinien (527-565) dont il est l'un des cousins. Il occupe plusieurs postes de commandement en Thrace, en Afrique du Nord et en Orient contre les Sassanides. Il devait conduire la dernière expédition byzantine contre les Ostrogoths mais il meurt juste avant. Du fait de ses états de service et de son mariage avec Matasonte, qui le lie avec la dynastie royale des Amales, il aurait pu figurer comme un héritier potentiel de l'empereur Justinien. (fr)

Germanus was een van de belangrijkste commandanten van keizer Justinianus I, die bovendien zijn neef was. Als zodanig maakte Germanus deel uit van de Justiniaanse dynastie. Hij bekleedde commandoposten in Thracië, Noord-Afrika en aan het oostfront tegen het Sassanidische Perzië. Toen hij plotseling stierf stond hij op het punt de laatste Byzantijnse expeditie tegen de Ostrogoten te leiden. Aangezien hij in zijn tweede huwelijk was getrouwd met Mathesuntha maakte hij ook deel uit van de koninklijke Gotische dynastie van de . Devido ao seu ingresso na dinastia dos Amalos, através de seu segundo casamento com a princesa gótica Matasunta, e por possuir um distinto registro de serviço, no tempo da morte repentina de Justiniano, foi considerado o provável herdeiro ao trono. - Ο Γερμανός (απεβ. 550) ήταν Βυζαντινός πατρίκιος και στρατηγός και ένας από τους διοικητές του αυτοκράτορα Ιουστινιανού Α'. Ο Γερμανός ήταν ξάδελφος του αυτοκράτορα Ιουστινιανού και μέλος της κυρίαρχης δυναστείας. Ανέλαβε διοικητής στη Θράκη, τη Βόρεια Αφρική και της Ανατολής ενάντια στην αυτοκρατορία των Σασσανιδών και ήταν υποψήφιος να διοικήσει την τελική βυζαντινή εκστρατεία ενάντια στους Οστρογότθους. - Germano Giustino (latino: Germanus Iustinus; ... – Serdica, 550) fu un membro della dinastia giustinianea, in quanto parente dell'imperatore Giustiniano I, e generale dell'Impero bizantino. Intrapresa la carriera militare, Germano si dimostrò un comandante di valore, raggiungendo i gradi di magister militum per Thracias ("comandante in capo dell'esercito di Tracia") e poi di magister militum praesentalis ("generale al servizio dell'imperatore") e fu designato come comandante della spedizione bizantina contro gli Ostrogoti. Essendosi imparentato con la linea reale Amala tramite la seconda moglie Matasunta e a causa dei risultati raggiunti nel corso della sua carriera, al momento della propria morte improvvisa, era considerato il principale candidato per la successione all'imperatore Giustin (it)
