És un poble semita descendent dels axumites establerts a la zona en una posició militar; la seva llengua és l'harari o adareñña, l'única llengua semita en un territori rodejat de parlants de llengües cuixites; fa pocs anys l'alfabet ge'ez va substituir l'alfabet àrab, que fins aleshores s'utilitzava per escriure la llengua. - The Harari people (Harari: ጌይ ኡሱኣች Gēy Usuach, "People of the City") are Semitic-speaking ethnic group inhabiting the Horn of Africa. Members traditionally reside in the walled city of Harar, called simply Gēy "the City" in Harari, situated in the Harari Region of eastern Ethiopia. They speak the Harari language, a member of the South Ethiopic grouping within the Semitic subfamily of the Afroasiatic languages. (en)

- Die Aderi (auch Harari) sind eine Ethnie in Nordost-Äthiopien. Sie sind die muslimischen Bewohner der Stadt Harar und zugleich die Titularnation der ethnisch definierten Region Harar. Ihre Sprache, das Harari, gehört der südwest-semitischen Gruppe innerhalb der afroasiatischen Sprachfamilie an. Die Aderi haben aus historischen Gründen eine eigene linguistisch-kulturelle Identität. Der Rechtsgelehrte Abdullah al-Harari gehörte den Aderi an. (de)
