InterCity (or, in the earliest days, the hyphenated Inter-City) was introduced by British Rail in 1966 as a brand-name for its long-haul express passenger services (see British Rail brand names for a full history).
InterCity (zuvor Inter-City) war der Markenname der Langstreckenexpressfahrten von British Rail. Im Jahr 1986 unterteilte die British Railways Board seine Aktivitäten in einer Reihe von Sektoren (Sektorisierung). Der für die Fernschnellzüge verantwortliche Sektor übernahm die Marke Intercity, obwohl viele Routen, die zuvor als InterCity-Verbindungen betrieben wurden, auf andere Sektoren (z. B.
