Interlocking directorate refers to the practice of members of a corporate board of directors serving on the boards of multiple corporations. A person that sits on multiple boards is known as a multiple director. Two firms have a direct interlock if a director or executive of one firm is also a director of the other, and an indirect interlock if a director of each sits on the board of a third firm.

Debaty, které se dotýkají interlocking directorates, se většinou současně zmiňují o střetu zájmů. Stav, kdy u prolínajícího se představenstva může dojít nebo dochází ke střetu zájmu, typicky nastává tehdy, pokud jednou z „prolínajících se“ společností je významná, například průmyslová nebo bankovní korporace a druhá je mediálního typu (televizní či radiová stanice, zpravodajský kanál, tištěné periodikum…), která je schopna o konání první zmíněné společnosti oslovit velké množství lidí – a to jak v pozitivním slova smyslu (skrytá reklamy, záměrné nadržování či naopak shazování konkurenčních společností), tak tom negativním (ovlivňování zpravodajců a novinářů druhé společnosti, kteří chystají materiál kritický k chování nebo produktech první zmíněné společnosti).
