| - Kente je druh tkaniny z hedvábných pruhů. Vyrábí ji národ Ašantů v Ghaně. Dříve to byla posvátná látka pouze pro krále při významných událostech. Tkanina je typická svou pestrobarevností a geometrickými vzory. Jednotlivé barvy i vzory mají svou symboliku. (cs)

- Kente is een typische Ghanese stof. Dit Afrikaans strokenweefsel is kenmerkend voor de Ashanti. De stof wordt gekenmerkt door de non-figuratieve geometrische patronen. Het woord Kente zou afkomstig zijn van het Fante woord kenten, dat mand of korf betekent. Het verwijst naar het dambordpatroon dat kenmerkend is voor deze weefsels. (nl)
- Il Kente è un tipo di tessuto di seta e/o cotone fatto di strisce di tessuto intrecciato ed è originario dell'etnia Akan del Ghana occidentale. Il Kente è prodotto nelle terre di Akan come Impero ashanti, (Bonwire, Adanwomase, Sakora Wonoo, Ntonso nelle aree di Kwabre della regione Ashanti). Viene anche indossato dal popolo sud-orientale, centrale e settentrionale del Ghana. Il Kente deriva dal lemma kenten che in dialetto Akan Asante significa cesto. Gli Akan si riferiscono al kente come nwentom, che significa "tessuto intessuto". È una stoffa reale e sacra di Akan indossata solo in tempi di estrema importanza ed era la stoffa dei re. Nel tempo, l'uso della kente è diventato più diffuso. Tuttavia, la sua importanza è rimasta ed è tenuta in grande considerazione con gli Akan. (it)

- Kente (eigentlich kente) ist ein Stoff, der von den Angehörigen der Akanvölker (Ashanti, Nzima, Fanti und andere) und dem Volk der Ewe im heutigen Ghana und in einigen Teile der Elfenbeinküste hergestellt wird und früher nur von Königen getragen werden durfte. Ausgangsmaterial war feine Baumwolle oder Seide. Da es keine einheimische Seidenraupenzucht gab, importierten die Aschanti seit dem 17. Jahrhundert Seidenkleider, entribbelten diese Kleidung und gewannen so Seide für die Kentestoffe. (de)

Historically the fabric was worn in a toga-like fashion by royalty among ethnic groups such as the Ashanti and Ewe. It is also worn by queens, princesses and women of Dagbon. In modern day Ghana, the wearing of kente cloth has become widespread to commemorate special occasions, with highly sought-after kente brands led by master weavers. (en)
