László Schäffer (July 19, 1893 – May 1979), was a Hungarian cinematographer. Born in Uzhhorod, Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary, currently a part of the Ukraine, he worked mostly in Germany in the 1920s. After the Nazi Party rose to power in 1933, Schäffer returned to Budapest. He took his place behind the cameras several times, until in 1939 he emigrated to the United States. Establishing himself in Los Angeles, he received no requests for his occupation. He died in Los Angeles in 1979.

Während des Ersten Weltkrieges wurde er Kameramann und ging 1920 nach Berlin. An der Seite von Fritz Arno Wagner drehte er dort die Schauergeschichte Schloß Vogelöd. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt in Schäffers Laufbahn war der Einsatz als einer von mehreren Kameraleuten in Walter Ruttmanns experimentellem Dokumentarfilm Berlin – Die Sinfonie der Grosstadt. 1929 drehte er mit Carl Junghans den sozialkritischen Streifen So ist das Leben. Nach der „Machtergreifung“ der Nationalsozialisten 1933 kehrte der jüdischstämmige Schäffer nach Budapest zurück. Dort stand er noch einige Male hinter der Kamera, bis er 1939 in die USA emigrierte. Er ließ sich in der Filmmetropole Los Angeles nieder, erhielt aber keine seinem Beruf entsprechenden Aufträge. (de)

A further high point in Schäffer's career was the employment as one of several cameramen in Walter Ruttmann's experimental documentary film Berlin: Symphony of a Great City (1927). After the Nazi Party rose to power in 1933, Schäffer returned to Budapest. He took his place behind the cameras several times, until in 1939 he emigrated to the United States.
