The master of the cupbearers or master of the cup-bearers (German: Königliche Oberst-Grossmundschenke, Hungarian: főpohárnok, Slovak: pohárnik and Latin: pincernarum regalium magistri or magister pincernarum) was one of the high officials of the royal household in the Kingdom of Hungary. Masters of the cupbearers were included among the "true barons" of the realm from around 1220.

Il est mentionné pour la première fois en 1148. Il était à l'origine chargé de servir à boire au roi, aux princes ou à tout autre personnage de haut rang. L'échanson devait en particulier veiller à écarter tout risque d'empoisonnement et parfois même goûter le vin avant de le servir. Par la suite, il devint responsable en chef de la fourniture et du service des boissons. (fr)

Oorspronkelijk was het de taak van de opperste hofschenker om de drank van de koning en andere hooggeplaatste gasten in te schenken. In het bijzonder moest hij erop toezien dat ieder risico op vergiftiging was uitgesloten en soms zelf de wijn voorproeven alvorens deze in te schenken. Later werd hij ook verantwoordelijk voor de levering en bediening van de drank. Het ambt is vergelijkbaar met dat van schenk. In een Poolse of Litouwse context is de titel vergelijkbaar met die van cześnik. (nl)
