The Prix du Polar Européen (English: European Crime Fiction Prize) is a French literary prize awarded each year for the best crime or thriller novel by a European author in French or a French translation. The award was launched by the weekly magazine Le Point in 2003. The jury is composed of police officers, publishing professionals and journalists. The prize was originally delivered to the winning author at the opening of the Nice Book Festival but, since 2007, it has been awarded at the Quais du Polar in Lyon.

Remis à l'origine en public à l'auteur lors de l'inauguration du Festival du livre de Nice, le prix est, depuis 2007, décerné lors du Festival Quais du polar de Lyon. Die Auszeichnung wurde 2003 von der französischen Wochenzeitschrift Le Point ins Leben gerufen. Über den Preisträger, der im Frühjahr auf dem Literaturfestival Quais du polar in Lyon (früher auf dem Festival du livre in Nizza) geehrt wird, entscheidet eine Jury bestehend aus Mitgliedern der Zeitschriftenredaktion, Kriminalpolizisten und prominenten Kriminalschriftstellern. So kürten bei der ersten Verleihung des Prix du polar européen unter anderem Didier Daeninckx und Dominique Manotti den Sieger, unter Vorsitz des Jurypräsidenten Charles Diaz, dem damaligen Generalinspektor der Police nationale (IGPN). Die sechs Finalteilnehmer, unter denen die Jury den besten europäischen Kriminalroman ermittelt, setzen sich aus den Einsendungen der Verleger zusammen, die sich jährlich auf etwa 60 bis 80 Neuerscheinungen belaufen.
