Robert James Mair, Baron Mair, CBE, FRS, FICE, FREng (born 20 April 1950) is a geotechnical engineer and Emeritus Sir Kirby Laing Professor of Civil Engineering and director of research at the University of Cambridge. He is Head of the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC). He was Master of Jesus College, Cambridge, from 2001 to 2011 and a fellow of St John's College, Cambridge, from 1998 to 2001. In 2014 he was elected a vice president of the Institution of Civil Engineers and on 1 November 2017 became the Institution's president for 2017–18, its 200th anniversary year. He was appointed an independent crossbencher in the House of Lords in 2015 and is currently a member of its Select Committee on Science and Technology.

Mair studierte Bauingenieurwesen an der Universität Cambridge mit dem Bachelorabschluss am Clare College 1971 und dem Masterabschluss 1975. 1979 wurde er dort promoviert (Ph.D.). Daneben arbeitete er ab 1971 elf Jahre für Scott, Wilson, Kirkpatrick and Partners (SWK) unter anderem in Hongkong (unter anderem an einem großen Container-Terminal), wobei er diese Tätigkeit 1976 bis 1979 für seine Promotion (über Tunnel in weichem Untergrund) an die Universität Cambridge unterbrach. 1994 bis 1997 war er Gastprofessor an der Nottingham University. 1997/98 war er Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor an der Universität Cambridge und ab 1998 Professor für Geotechnik in Cambridge.
