The SS Hewitt was a steel hulled bulk freighter built for the J. S. Emery Steamship Co. of Boston, Massachusetts, as the Pacific. (She had one sister ship named Atlantic.) She was sold to the Union Sulphur Company in 1915 and in 1921 she and her entire crew disappeared without a trace off the southeast coast of the United States.

  • Die Hewitt war ein 1914 in Dienst gestellter US-amerikanischer Massengutfrachter für den Erz- und Schwefeltransport. Das Schiff war ursprünglich im Juli 1913 und noch unter dem Namen Pacific von der J. S. Emery Steamship Company in Auftrag gegeben worden. Bauwerft war die Fore River Shipyard in Quincy im US-Bundesstaat Massachusetts. Nach dem Stapellauf am 4. August 1914 erfolgte im September 1914 die Indienststellung. Im Jahr 1915 wurde der Frachter an die verkauft, die den Dampfer unter dem neuen Namen Hewitt (nach Abram Hewitt, einem Investor der Union Sulphur Company) einsetzte. Heimathafen war New York City. Das Schiff ging Anfang 1921 im Nordatlantik aus ungeklärten Gründen mit der gesamten Besatzung verloren. (de)
