Alla loro nascita, il 15 aprile 1979, era un piccolo gruppo di uomini gay a San Francisco, che cominciò a indossare abiti da suora in situazioni pubbliche per attirare l'attenzione sui conflitti sociali e i problemi nel distretto di Castro.
