Chol (Hebrew: חוֹל ḥōl), in most passages of the Hebrew Bible, is a word for sand. On the other hand, Mitchell Dahood (1974) argued in favor of the interpretation "phoenix" on the basis of parallels between Job and Ugaritic texts.
