He made his senior debut in the 1930–31 National League. Mackey went on to play a key part for Limerick during a golden age for the team, and won three All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and five National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions, Mackey also captained the team to two All-Ireland victories.

  • Iománaí Éireannach ab ea Mícheál Mac Aodha (12 Iúil, 1912 - 13 Meán Fómhair 1982), nó Mick Mackey mar atá aithne níos fearr air as Béarla. Tá cáil bainte amach aige ina imreoir leis an bhfoireann idir-chontae Luimneach idir na blianta 1930 agus 1946, agus ainmnítear é i gcónaí i measc na hiománaithe is fearr riamh. Roghadh é ina leath tosaí san Fhoireann Iománaíochta na Mílaoise chomh maith. (ga)
