It has always been its goal to promote and support established, debut, and student filmmakers, especially in the field of independent short filmswith their annual events and competitions. The festival welcomes all forms of short films: live-action, animation, documentaries, and music videos. The festival has a passion to celebrate short films from around the world, bringing filmmakers together. The Waterford Film Festival was the 1st festival in the Republic of Ireland to hold an annual short screenplay competition supportingand acknowledging the work of short screenplay writers. The festival also runs a movie-themed Photography Competition to support and encourage new and emerging talent in the areas of photography and art. Each year the festival produces a series of events that are creative, intriguing, fun, and entertaining. The festival hugely encourages networking. Social meetups and events are held for the audience to meet other filmmakersover the festival weekend. Filmmakers & Artists from across the globe have attended the festival and we always look forward to meeting and engaging with all filmmakersand our audience. The festival strives to promote talent from all over the world and to bring a wide variety of projects for our audience of cinema lovers to enjoy. A number of films and scripts first surfaced at the festival have gone on to screenings and award wins at international festivals, including Paradox Pictures' 'Lost and Found', which was screened internationally and received an Honourable Mention at the Chicago Irish Film Festival. Peter McNamara's 'Narcan' went on from the WFF to win Best Narrative Short at the New York Metropolitan Film Festival. Lead Peter Halpin also took home the best actor award for the film at the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival. (en)
