The 1940 Mitropa Cup was the 14th edition of the Mitropa Cup and the last season played before the competition was interrupted by the Second World War. The competition would be resumed after the war under the name Zentropa Cup but by that time it was overshadowed by the newly formed European Cup which included teams from all parts of Europe. Last season's champions Újpest were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the competition. This edition is notable for being the first edition in which a team from Romania reached the final. Rapid București of Romania beat Hungária FC MTK Budapest of Hungary in the quarterfinals and got past Građanski of Yugoslavia in the semi-finals to get to the finals in which they were to play Ferencváros. The final was cancelled due to the Second World War.

| - Sezóna 1940 byla 14. ročníkem Středoevropského poháru. Zúčastnily se nejlepší týmy z uplynulého ročníku domácí ligy z Maďarska, Jugoslávie a Rumunska. Ročník se hrál kvůli probíhající 2. světové válce pouze v okleštěné podobě a kvůli válečným událostem se nedohrál. Další ročník se konal až v roce 1951. (cs)

- Der Mitropapokal 1940 war die 14. und vor der kriegsbedingten Unterbrechung letzte Auflage des internationalen Cupwettbewerbs und stand im Zeichen der deutschen Expansionspolitik im Zuge des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Neben den Klubs aus Österreich waren nun auch die Klubs aus dem Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren an der Teilnahme gehindert. Die Italiener verzichteten aufgrund des Zweiten Weltkrieges. So nahmen nur Klubs aus Ungarn, Jugoslawien und Rumänien teil, so dass wie im Vorjahr mit dem Viertelfinale begonnen wurde. Es handelte sich wie in den Jahren zuvor um die Meister, Vizemeister bzw. Cupsieger der jeweiligen Länder. Die Teilnehmer spielten im reinen Pokalmodus mit Hin- und Rückspielen. Bei Gleichstand nach zwei Spielen wurde ein Entscheidungsspiel durchgeführt. (de)
