The 2021 Berlin referendum, formally referred to as Deutsche Wohnen & Co. enteignen (English: Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen & Co.) or DW enteignen, was a referendum held in Berlin in 2021. Voters were asked if they approved of the expropriation of the property of private real-estate companies with 3,000 or more units in the city, through public purchases by the Berlin state government. This would affect 243,000 rental apartments out of 1.5 million total apartments in Berlin. The largest such real-estate company is Deutsche Wohnen, for which the initiative is named, followed by Vonovia. In total, the referendum would impact 12 large real-estate companies.

No obstant això, aquest resultat depèn que el parlament de l'estat de Berlín el converteixi en llei, a reserva de la legitimitat que li atorgui al projecte la magnitud de la seva victòria en les urnes. Dabei sollen die enteigneten Wohnungen in eine Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts überführt werden. Dies beträfe 243.000 der rund 1,5 Millionen Mietwohnungen in Berlin. Als Gründe werden steigende Mieten auf dem Berliner Wohnungsmarkt und zum Teil unterlassene Instandhaltungen durch große Immobilienfirmen angeführt. - El referèndum de Berlín de 2021 és un referèndum consultiu d'iniciativa popular que es va celebrar el 26 de setembre de 2021, al mateix temps que les eleccions regionals, perquè els berlinesos puguin votar sobre l'expropiació de les empreses immobiliàries privades propietàries de més de 3.000 habitatges en la capital alemanya, mitjançant la seva absorció pel govern regional de Berlín. El referèndum fou possible gràcies a una iniciativa de «Deutsche Wohnen & Co enteignen» (expropiar Deutsche Wohnen i companyia) que va recollir 350.000 firmes, tot i que el mínim era 170.000. Afectaria uns 240.000 habitatges, que representa l’11% dels habitatges de la capital. L'objectiu d'aquesta expropiació és mitigar la gentrificació. La proposta va ser aprovada per una àmplia majoria de gairebé el 60% dels vots emesos. El resultat també va ser validat pel fet que es va superar el quòrum requerit del 25% dels votants registrats, amb una mica més del 42% d'ells votant a favor de l'expropiació. No obstant això, aquest resultat depèn que el parlament de l'estat de Berlín el converteixi en llei, a reserva de la legitimitat que li atorgui al projecte la magnitud de la seva victòria en les urnes. The initiative for the referendum was originally launched in 2018. It successfully passed the first signature-collecting phase in July 2019, receiving at least 58,000 valid signatures of the 20,000 required; and the second phase in June 2021, receiving at least 175,000 of the 170,000 required. The referendum took place on 26 September 2021 alongside the state and federal election. The expropriation proposal passed the legal quorum of 25% of eligible voters, receiving the approval of 57.6% of voters, while 39.8% voted against. The result is non-binding. (en)
