- The 2nd World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) was held from 27 July to 3 August 1949 in Budapest, capital city of the then Hungarian People's Republic, a city still recuperating from World War II. The 2nd WFYS was one of three major youth events held in Communist Hungary in 1949, along with the World University Summer Games and the World Youth Congress. It was organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youth and the International Union of Students. It featured a sports programme, including an athletics competition. (en)

- Het tweede wereldfestival voor jeugd en studenten werd in 1949 in Boedapest, Hongarije, gehouden. Het festival was een van de drie grote jongerenevenementen dat jaar in Boedapest. Ook de en het werden in de zich nog van de Tweede Wereldoorlog herstellende stad georganiseerd. De slogan van het festivak was Verenig je jeugd! Voorwaarts voor duurzame vrede, democratie, nationale onafhankelijkheid en een betere toekomst voor de mensheid! (nl)

Открывшись 14 августа, фестиваль продлился ровно две недели. Церемония закрытия состоялась 28 августа. Восточногерманская делегация впервые приняла участие на фестивале в качестве делегации независимого государства. Упор в политической части программы фестиваля делался на антиколониальную борьбу жителей Индонезии, Малайзии и Французского Индокитая и антифашистскую борьбу испанского и греческого народов. (ru)

Organitzada per la Federació Mundial de la Joventut Democràtica (FMJD), la segona edició del festival va reunir a prop de 20.000 joves d'almenys 82 països —algunes fonts parlen de 90 delegacions— sota el lema "Joventut, uneix-te! Endavant, per a una pau ferma, per la democràcia, la independència nacional dels pobles i per un futur millor!" La cerimònia d'obertura es va realitzar el 14 d'agost en l', localitzat a la zona septentrional de Budapest. Durant dues setmanes es van desenvolupar diverses activitats culturals, recreatives i polítiques. El Festival va expressar la seva solidaritat cap als esforços anticolonialistes dels pobles d'Indonèsia, la Indoxina i Malàisia", així com el seu suport a les posicions democràtiques en contra dels seus governs feixistes de la joventut grega i espanyola. The 2nd WFYS was one of three major youth events held in Communist Hungary in 1949, along with the World University Summer Games and the World Youth Congress. It was organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youth and the International Union of Students. On 14 August 1949, 20,000 young people from 82 countries gathered in the Ujpest Stadium, opening the festival. For two weeks, the participants took part in cultural, sport, and political activities. The festival expressed its solidarity for the "anti-colonialist struggle" of the peoples of Indonesia, Malaysia and French Indochina and also for the "anti-fascist struggle" of the Spanish and Greek peoples. It was the first time that a delegation from what would become East Germany took part. It featured a sports programme, including an athletics competition. The motto of the festival was: Youth Unite! Forward for Lasting Peace, Democracy, National Independence and a Better Future for the People! (en)

Organizada por la Federación Mundial de la Juventud Democrática (FMJD), la segunda edición de su festival reunió a cerca de 20.000 jóvenes de al menos 82 países —algunas fuentes hablan de 90 delegaciones— bajo el lema "¡Juventud, únete! ¡Adelante, por una paz firme, por la democracia, la independencia nacional de los pueblos y por un futuro mejor!" La ceremonia de apertura se realizó el 14 de agosto en el Estadio Újpest, localizado en la zona septentrional de Budapest. Durante dos semanas se desarrollaron diversas actividades culturales, recreativas y políticas. El Festival expresó su solidaridad hacia los "esfuerzos anticolonialistas de los pueblos de Indonesia, Indochina y Malasia", así como su apoyo a las "posiciones democráticas en contra de sus gobiernos fascistas" de la juventud griega y la española. Ook de en het werden in de zich nog van de Tweede Wereldoorlog herstellende stad georganiseerd. Op 14 augustus 1949 openden 20.000 jongeren van 82 landen in het Szusza Ferenc Stadion het festival. Twee weken lang namen ze deel aan culturele, sportieve en politieke activiteiten. Het festival benadrukte zijn solidariteit met de anti-kolonistische strijd van de Indonesiërs, Maleisiërs en van Frans-Indochina, en ook met de anti-fascistische strijd van Spanje en Griekenland. Het was de eerste keer dat een vertegenwoordiging van de toekomstige Duitse Democratische Republiek (DDR) deelnam. De slogan van het festivak was Verenig je jeugd! Voorwaarts voor duurzame vrede, democratie, nationale onafhankelijkheid en een betere toekomst voor de mensheid! (nl)

Второй фестиваль показал востребованность подобных мероприятий, ведь если I Всемирный фестиваль молодёжи и студентов собрал 17000 участников из 71 страны, то во втором уже были представлены участники из 82 стран. И хотя число самих участников оказалось на 6000 меньше, чем в первом фестивале, это никак не отображало числа желающих принять непосредственное участие в событии. Восточногерманская делегация впервые приняла участие на фестивале в качестве делегации независимого государства. Упор в политической части программы фестиваля делался на антиколониальную борьбу жителей Индонезии, Малайзии и Французского Индокитая и антифашистскую борьбу испанского и греческого народов. Большую моральную поддержку фестивалю высказали некоторые выдающиеся личности: Вместе мы будем бороться за мир и построим мир, в котором справедливость восторжествует везде, и будет хорошо жить. — Фредерик Жолио-Кюри, нобелевский лауреат, экс-президент Постоянного комитета Всемирного конгресса сторонников мира Мир необходим молодёжи в первую очередь, потому что без мира нет жизни. Молодёжь — одна из величайших сил мира, потому что она вкладывает в борьбу за мир свои мечты, надежды и энергию. — Джеймс Джеральд Кроутер, популяризатор науки, генеральный секретарь Всемирной федерации научных работников Именно в Будапеште во время проведения фестиваля состоялся международный футбольный турнир, где победила страна-хозяин благодаря участию в команде многих именитых футболистов страны. Впрочем и в последующие два турнира, сборная Венгрии повторила свой успех. Отмеченная в Венгрии тенденция к росту числа стран-участниц фестивалей молодёжи сохранится ещё на несколько десятилетий.
