AFL NSW/ACT is the trading name of the AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission Limited, a wholly owned and controlled subsidiary of the AFL Commission (AFL), established in 1999. AFL NSW/ACT acts as the governing body for Australian rules football in New South Wales and in the Australian Capital Territory. In 1994, the AFL Commission attempted to amalgamate the NSW and ACT competitions, a move which was strongly resisted by the ACTAFL and the ACT government. In New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory the name of the sport is promoted as "AFL" instead of its official name of Australian Football.
