| - Schauplatz Der Englischen See-Räuber ist der Titel der 1728 in Goslar erschienenen deutschen Übersetzung des Buches A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the most notorious Pyrates („Eine allgemeine Geschichte der Räubereien und Morde der berüchtigtsten Piraten“) aus dem Jahr 1724. Das Werk enthält Biographien namhafter englischer Piraten und beeinflusste maßgeblich das populäre Bild des Piraten. Es ist eine der am meisten genannten Quellen bei Biographien englischer Piraten. Die Identität des Autors Captain Charles Johnson ist ungeklärt. Von einem Kapitän dieses Namens fehlen historische Aufzeichnungen. Man geht daher davon aus, dass der Verfassername ein Pseudonym ist. - A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the most notorious Pyrates („Všeobecné dějiny loupení a vražd nejproslulejších pirátů“) je kniha vydaná roku 1724 v Británii obsahující biografie pirátů ze začátku 18. století, která silně ovlivnila všeobecně rozšířené představy o pirátech a pirátství. Jejím autorem je kapitán , jméno všeobecně považované za pseudonym. Kniha je primárním zdrojem informací o životech mnoha známých pirátů a někteří svéráznější z nich díky ní získali takřka mytické postavení – je ale pravděpodobné, že při zapisování pirátských rozhovorů autor popouštěl uzdu své fantazii. Kniha také obsahuje název známé pirátské vlajky Jolly Roger spolu s vyobrazením lebky se zkříženými hnáty. (cs)
- A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the most notorious Pyrates is a 1724 book published in Britain containing biographies of contemporary pirates, which was influential in shaping popular conceptions of pirates. Its author uses the name Captain Charles Johnson, generally considered a pen name for one of London's writer-publishers. The prime source for the biographies of many well-known pirates, the book gives an almost mythical status to the more colourful characters, and it is likely that the author used considerable licence in his accounts of pirate conversations. The book also contains the name of the pirate flag the Jolly Roger and shows the skull and bones design. (en)

Signé d'un certain Charles Johnson, dont l'existence est douteuse, le livre, qui est extrêmement bien renseigné sur l', est aujourd'hui souvent attribué à Daniel Defoe. Des recherches historiques menées au début des années 2000 laissent cependant supposer que l'auteur serait plutôt le journaliste anglais (en), bien qu'une contribution de Defoe ne soit pas à exclure.
