The album reached #175 on the Billboard album chart. The pontiff had reached #126 in 1979 with another album, "Pope John Paul II Sings At The Festival Of Sacrosong." Abbà Pater is made up entirely of original compositions. Many of the lyrics are derived from the Bible and Roman Catholic liturgy. Het album werd uitgebracht ter ere van zowel het naderende jubeljaar (2000) en het zeventigjarig jubileum van Radio Vaticaan. Abbà Pater verscheen op cd, minidisc en cassettebandje.
