Achatina vassei is a species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Achatinidae, the giant African snails. Of ‘Achatina’ vassei only the holotype was known up to 2010. The collector of the type shell, , was a French big game hunter, who spent roughly two years (1904-1907) in central Mozambique with his wife, collecting mammals, birds, insects, molluscs (very few), and plants for the Paris Museum of Natural History. The type specimen is stored in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, Paris (MNHN Mollusca No. 21490).
