Membre d'una família noble de la regió de Valença, a França, va ser nomenat bisbe de Le Puy el 1077 i va fer un pelegrinatge a Orient el 1086-1087. Aferrissat defensor i implantador de la reforma gregoriana, va donar proves de gran entusiasme per la idea de la Croada en el Concili de Clermont de 1095. El Papa Urbà II, que estava aconsellat per Ademar abans del Concili, el va nomenar legat pontifici per liderar la Primera Croada. (ca)

- Adhemar (also known as Adémar, Aimar, or Aelarz) de Monteil (died 1 August 1098) was one of the principal figures of the First Crusade and was bishop of Puy-en-Velay from before 1087. He was the chosen representative of Pope Urban II for the expedition to the Holy Land. Remembered for his martial prowess, he led knights and men into battle and fought beside them, particularly at the Battle of Dorylaeum and Siege of Antioch. Adhemar is said to have carried the Holy Lance in the Crusaders’ desperate breakout at Antioch on 28 June 1098, in which superior Islamic forces under the atabeg Kerbogha were routed, securing the city for the Crusaders. He died in 1098 due to illness. (en)

- Adhemar av Le Puy, död 1 augusti, 1098, var en fransk biskop och en av ledarna av det första korståget. Han skall ha myntat uttrycket Gud vill det. Adhemar föddes runt 1045 och utsågs till biskop av Le Puy 1080. Han var närvarande vid kyrkomötet i Clermont 1095 när påve Urban II kallade på korståg mot Jerusalem, Adhemar uppvisade stor iver för idén och utsågs till ledare för korståget. Adhemar ledde män i strid under ett antal slag under korståget men avled av en okänd sjukdom den 1 augusti 1098. (sv)
