An Aerobie is a flying ring used in a manner similar to a chakram or flying disc (Frisbee), for recreational catches between two or more individuals. Its ring shape of only about 3 mm (0.12 in) thicknessmakes the Aerobie lighter and more stable in flight than a disc.It can be bent to tune it for straighter flight.Since it has very low drag and good stability, it can be thrown much farther than a flying disc. The Aerobie was used to set two former world records for thrown objects.

Designed in 1984 by Stanford engineering lecturer Alan Adler, the Aerobie has a polycarbonate core with soft rubber bumpers molded onto the inner and outer rims. Das Aerobie wurde 1984 von erfunden. Es besitzt einen Kern aus Polycarbonat mit weichen Kanten aus Gummi an der Außen- und der Innenseite. Die Gummikante an der Außenseite ist auf besondere Weise aerodynamisch gestaltet und wesentlich verantwortlich für die Flugeigenschaften des Aerobie. Am 14. Juli 2003 wurde von Erin Hemmings in Fort Funston mit dem Aerobie mit einer Entfernung von 406,30 m ein Weltrekord für von Menschenhand geworfene Objekte aufgestellt. Das Sportgerät war dabei 30 Sekunden in der Luft (inoffizieller Wert) und war das erste Objekt, das weiter als eine Viertelmeile (ca. 402,30 m) geworfen wurde. Dieser Weltrekord wurde im Jahr 2005 allerdings mit einem Bumerangwurf überboten. (de)
