Alopecia mucinosa (also known as "Follicular mucinosis," "Mucinosis follicularis", "Pinkus' follicular mucinosis," and "Pinkus' follicular mucinosis–benign primary form") is a skin disorder that generally presents, but not exclusively, as erythematous plaques or flat patches without hair primarily on the scalp, neck and face. Alopecia mucinosa occurs when mucinous material accumulates in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. This triggers an inflammatory response, and affects the follicles ability to produce hair. This hair loss is reversible in the early stages, but once the disease advances, the hair follicles are destroyed, and Scarring alopecia occurs. (en)

Klinisch tritt die Mucinosis follicularis herdförmig mit Haarverlust und Papeln auf, die gut abgegrenzt, flach erhaben, gerötet und mitunter juckend sind. Sie tritt meist in der kranialen Körperhälfte auf. Die Erkrankung wurde erstmals im Jahre 1904 von Karl Kreibich beschrieben. Die Ätiologie der Erkrankung ist bislang unbekannt, histologisch finden sich Veränderungen der betroffenen Haarfollikel. Die Prognose der Hauterscheinung ist unterschiedlich, sie reicht von spontaner Rückbildung bis hin zu langfristiger Ausbreitung über die gesamte Körperoberfläche (abhängig von der grundlegenden Ursache). Therapeutisch ist die Behandlung einer Grunderkrankung notwendig (sofern diese bekannt), symptomatisch werden beispielsweise corticoidhaltige Externa eingesetzt. (de)
