- The American Bobtail is an uncommon breed of domestic cat which was developed in the late 1960s. It is most notable for its stubby "bobbed" tail about one-third to one-half the length of a normal cat's tail. This is the result of a cat body type genetic mutation affecting the tail development, similar to that of a Manx cat. The breed is not related to the Japanese Bobtail despite the similar name and physical type—the breeding programs are entirely unrelated, and the genetic mutation causing the bobbed tail are known to be different because the mutation causing the American Bobtail's tail is dominant, whereas the Japanese Bobtail tail mutation is recessive. - Die American Bobtail ist eine relativ neue Katzenrasse, die in den späten 1960ern entstanden ist. - Il bobtail americano (inglese American Bobtail) è una razza di gatto originaria dell'America Settentrionale, sviluppata a partire dagli anni sessanta del XX secolo. Si caratterizza per la tipica coda mozza, in realtà lunga da un terzo alla metà di quella normalmente riscontrabile nei gatti di altre razze.Tale caratteristica è dovuta a una mutazione genetica simile a quella riscontrata nei gatti dell'isola di Man.

- Amerykański bobtail – rzadka rasa kota domowego o charakterystycznym krótkim i grubym („ściętym”) ogonie, wyhodowana w Ameryce w latach 60. XX wieku. Długość ogona amerykańskiego bobtaila wynosi od około 1/3 do 1/2 długości normalnego kociego ogona. Krótszy i grubszy ogon powstał w wyniku mutacji genetycznej, która wpłynęła na wygląd zewnętrzny (eksterier), za którą odpowiedzialny jest gen dominujący, podobnie jak w przypadku szczątkowego ogona kota rasy Manx. - De Amerikaanse bobtail is een zeldzaam ras onder de huiskatten, deze werd ontwikkeld aan het eind van de jaren '60. Hij staat bekend om zijn korte staart, zijn "stompje". De staart beslaat ongeveer 1/3 van een normale staart. Dit is het resultaat van een genetische mutatie in de staartontwikkeling, welke te vergelijken is met die van de Manx. Dit ras is niet verwant aan de Japanse bobtail, ondanks dezelfde naam en fysieke uitstraling. De fokprogramma's zijn totaal verschillend, het genetische gen wat de korte staart veroorzaakt is bij de Amerikaanse bobtail dominant en bij de Japanse bobtail recessief. (nl)
