Arati Prabhakar (born February 2, 1959) is an American engineer serving as the 12th director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and Science Advisor to the President since October 3, 2022. She was the former head of DARPA, the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a position she held from July 30, 2012 to January 20, 2017. She is a founder and the CEO of Actuate, a nonprofit organization. She headed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from 1993 to 1997, and was the first woman to head NIST.
