Localizava-se no canto nordeste da Cidadela do Capitólio, acima do Clivo Argentário, provavelmente próximo a atual Basílica de Santa Maria em Aracoeli. O sacerdote observador permanecia posicionado ao centro do edifício, em uma tenda ou cabana, e prestava atenção às porções do céu do qual vinham os pássaros, que eram marcados por pedras situadas ao longo do perímetro do templo, com intuito de poder prever o futuro. Especula-se que tenha mantido sua forma original até ao menos o reinado do imperador Augusto (r. 27 a.C.–14 d.C.). (pt)

| - Das Auguraculum war ein templum auf dem arx genannten Areal des Kapitols in Rom. Es handelte sich um einen augurischen Beobachtungsposten in arce auf dem Kapitol, von dem aus die Auguren die öffentlichen Auspizien vornahmen und in dessen Bereich die fetiales ihre Kräuter sammelten. Bei Marcus Terentius Varro wird die Formel für das Anlegen und Einteilen eines templum überliefert, während Titus Livius die Formel für die Amtseinführung der fetiales mitteilt. Die Lage auf der arx ist unstrittig, aber die einzige genauere Lagebeschreibung innerhalb des Areals liefert Marcus Tullius Cicero, der berichtet, dass das Haus des auf dem Caelius die Sichtlinie bei den Auspizien beeinträchtige und deswegen abgerissen werden musste. Demnach ist das auguraculum an der Nordostseite der arx, oberhalb des clivus Argentarius zu vermuten, nahe der Apsis von Santa Maria in Aracoeli. Das auguraculum war baulich nur eine sehr einfache Einrichtung, eine kleine strohgedeckte Hütte, die anscheinend regelmäßig erneuert wurde. Möglicherweise stand diese Hütte am Beginn der via Sacra und war zu den Albaner Bergen hin ausgerichtet. Bei Varro wird überliefert, dass sich auf dem collis Latiaris am Südende des Quirinals ein weiteres Auguraculum befand. Varro erwähnt es in seiner Aufzählung der argei oder argeorum sacraria, allerdings ist die Stelle verderbt und von wenig Wert für eine genauere Deutung. (de)

The auguraculum was structurally a very simple device, a small thatched hut, which appears to have been regularly renewed. There were three permanent auguracula in Rome: on the citadel, on the Quirinal Hill, and on the Palatine Hill. Festus said that originally the auguraculum was just the arx. It faced east, situating the north on the augur's left or lucky side. Within the auguraculum, the elected monarch, during the Roman Kingdom, was seated by the augurs with his face to the south. A magistrate who was serving as a military commander also took daily auspices, and thus a part of camp-building while on campaign was the creation of a tabernaculum augurale. This augural tent was the center of religious and legal proceedings within the camp. (en)

Houve dois Auguráculos permanentes em Roma: aquele da Cidadela do Capitólio e outro no Monte Laciar, a porção mais meridional do Quirinal, que fora mencionado apenas uma vez no relato de Marco Terêncio Varrão. Segundo , provavelmente aquele presente no Quirinal teria sido mais antigo, tendo ele servido como um antigo centro augural até a criação do Auguráculo do Capitólio. Durante o Reino de Roma, o monarca eleito era levado pelos áugures ao Auguráculo da cidadela, onde era posicionado com sua face para sul.
