Australian rules football in France is played in both league and cup based formats. As of the 2017/2018 season there are eight clubs based in Paris (2 teams), Bordeaux, Perpignan, Toulouse, Blagnac, Lyon, and Cergy-Pontoise that compete in the national league. The Commission Nationale de Football Australien (CNFA) is the official governing body for Australian Football in France. In addition to the teams that compete in the national league, there are a number of other teams either in formation or playing in friendly and cup matches, these teams are located in Strasbourg, Bayonne, Montpellier, Lille and Antony. Classé sans suite en France après le départ des militaires australiens le football australien disparaît de l'Hexagone pendant près de 70 ans. La discipline réapparaît brièvement à la fin du XXe siècle avec la création d'un premier club en France en 1998, les Tasmania Montivilliers. Il faut attendre le milieu des années 2000 pour assister à un réel développement de la discipline en France avec la naissance du Comité national de football australien (par transformation de la Commission nationale de football australien créé en 2007) soutenu par l’Union nationale sportive Léo-Lagrange. La toute première compétition française qui voit le jour le 28 juin 2008 à Paris, dans le Bois de Vincennes est la Coupe de France. La première édition réussit à réunir quatre équipes: les Paris Cockerels, les Strasbourg Kangourous les Bordeaux Bombers et les Montpellier Fire Sharks. Le championnat de France est lancé l'année suivante le 29 mars 2009, à Saint-Médard-en-Jalles avec ses mêmes dernières équipes. Aujourd'hui, sur les 13 équipes existantes, seul 8 clubs y participent: Bordeaux, Lyon, Paris (2 équipes), Bayonne, Toulouse (2 équipes), et Antony. (fr)
