- Bacchus and Ariadne (1522–1523) is an oil painting by Titian. It is one of a cycle of paintings on mythological subjects produced for Alfonso I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara, for the Camerino d'Alabastro – a private room in his palazzo in Ferrara decorated with paintings based on classical texts. An advance payment was given to Raphael, who originally held the commission for the subject of a Triumph of Bacchus. At the time of Raphael's death in 1520, only a preliminary drawing was completed and the commission was then handed to Titian. In the case of Bacchus and Ariadne, the subject matter was derived from the Roman poets Catullus and Ovid. (en)

Pertenece a un ciclo de pinturas de temas mitológicos producido para Alfonso I de Este, el duque de Ferrara, para el Camerino d'Alabastro, una habitación privada en su palacio de Ferrara, decorada con pinturas basadas en textos clásicos. Se le pagó un adelanto a Rafael, quien originariamente recibió el encargo para el tema de un Triunfo de Baco. Cuando murió Rafael, en el año 1520, solo se había completado un esbozo preliminar, y el encargo entonces pasó a Tiziano. Pertence a um ciclo de pinturas de temas mitológicos produzidos para Afonso I d'Este, duque de Ferrara, para o Camerino d'Alabastro, uma sala privada no seu palácio de Ferrara, decorado com pinturas baseadas em textos clássicos. Foi pago um adiantamento a Rafael, que recebeu originalmente a comissão para o tema de um Triunfo de Baco. Quando Rafael morreu em 1520, apenas um esboço preliminar tinha sido concluído, e a comissão passou então para Ticiano. No caso de Baco e Ariadne, o tema deriva dos poetas romanos Catulo e Ovídio. - Bacchus och Ariadne är en oljemålning av den italienske renässanskonstnären Tizian. Den målades 1520–1523 och ingår sedan 1823 i National Gallerys samlingar i London. Den här bilden visar det laddade ögonblick då Ariadne, dotter till kung Minos av Kreta, träffar vinets gud Bacchus (i grekisk mytologi Dionysos). Hon hade blivit övergiven av sin älskade Theseus som hon hjälpt att fly ur Minotaurus labyrint. I bildens vänsterkant kan man se Thesus skepp segla bort. När hon ensam vandrar längs stränderna på den grekiska ön Naxos möter hon Bacchus och de blir genast förälskade i varandra. Här har Bacchus tagit Ariadnes krona och slungat upp den till himlavalvet där den syns som stjärnbilden Norra kronan (överst till vänster på tavlan). Senare gifte Bacchus och Ariadne sig och hon blev odödlig. (sv)
