- The bass saxophone is one of the lowest-pitched members of the saxophone family—larger and lower than the more common baritone saxophone. It was likely the first type of saxophone built by Adolphe Sax, as first observed by Berlioz in 1842. It is a transposing instrument pitched in B♭, an octave below the tenor saxophone and a perfect fourth below the baritone saxophone. A bass saxophone in C, intended for orchestral use, was included in Adolphe Sax's patent, but few known examples were built. The bass saxophone is not a commonly used instrument, but it is heard on some 1920s jazz recordings, in free jazz, in saxophone choirs and sextets, and occasionally in concert bands and rock music. - Il sassofono basso, o più semplicemente sax basso, è uno degli strumenti appartenenti alla famiglia dei sassofoni. Inizialmente pensato in Do da Adolphe Sax a Bruxelles nel 1841, ad oggi è uno strumento trasportato in Si bemolle, un'ottava sotto rispetto al sassofono tenore. Il sassofono basso non viene comunemente usato in tutti i tipi di musica, ma viene principalmente utilizzato nel free jazz e nel jazz degli anni '20. Lo strumento fu utilizzato per la prima volta nel 1844 dal compositore francese, Hector Berlioz in un suo arrangiamento. Venne adoperato anche da Georges Kastner in una sua opera. Negli anni cinquanta e sessanta, il sax basso incontrò anche la musica classicaː per esempio, nella colonna sonora di West Side Story di Leonard Bernstein e altre come, The Boy Friend di Sandy W (it)
- De bassaxofoon is een van de laagste instrumenten uit de saxofoonfamilie; alleen de contrabassaxofoon en de subcontrabassaxofoon zijn nog lager. De bassaxofoon is gestemd in bes, en wel een octaaf lager dan een tenorsaxofoon. De bassaxofoon is het eerste type saxofoon dat door de Belgische uitvinder Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) is gebouwd. Daarbij dient te worden opgemerkt dat zijn eerste bassaxofoon in C was gestemd, dit in tegenstelling tot de huidige bassaxofoons die in Bb staan. (nl)
- Bassaxofonen stämd i BBb är den tredje största saxofonen av alla. Större modeller är kontrabassaxofonen stämd i EEb och den nyligen tillverkade subkontrabassaxofonen (tubax) stämd i BBBb. Bassaxofonen var den första saxofonmodellen som Adolphe Sax tillverkade på 1840-talet, syftet var att ta fram ett ljudstarkt blåsinstrument som kunde överbrygga klangen mellan brass och träblås.
