Beryllus of Bostra (fl. c. 222–235) was a bishop of Bostra whose writings are lost but is mainly remembered for denying the pre-existence of Christ, and also for dynamic Monarchianism, the denial of Christ's independent divinity. According to Eusebius he was among the "learned churchmen" (Hist. eccl. VI, 20) of the period. His writings and letters were held in the library established by Alexander of Jerusalem, but have not been preserved. Historical theology knows Beryllus. Origen disputed with Beryllus at the Councils of Arabia regarding Monarchianism between 238 and 244 and appears to have persuaded him, though he may have retained his view on pre-existence. Beryllos offers an early example of the heretical beliefs Hellenic Christians imputed to the Arabs as a race.

VI 33) riportava, vagamente, che Berillo, vescovo di Bostra, insegnasse che il Salvatore non aveva una sua distinta preesistenza prima dell'Incarnazione, e non aveva una Divinità propria, ma che la Divinità del Padre si era riversata in Lui, così come nei profeti. Берилл был епископом Бостры во времена правления императоров Александра Север, Максимина и Гордиана. Недолго занимая архиерейский престол, Берилл начал проповедовать новое учение, отличное от учения Христианской церкви, он учил о том, что до своего воплощения Сын Божий не имел ни собственной сущности, ни собственной Божественности, что в Нем только пребывала Отчая, или другими словами Сын Божий не существовал до воплощения, существовал лишь Бог Отец. По поводу еретического учения Берилла возникли споры среди многих епископов. Для проведения диспута с Бериллом в Бостру приехал Ориген, и состоялся церковный собор, на котором Ориген при помощи вопросов к Бериллу, публичного разговора с епископом, своими рассуждениями и объяснениями Священного Писания сумел переубедить Берилла и отказаться от еретических заблуждений, Берилл остался епископом Бостры, изменив свои взгляды на православные. В IV веке постановление Бострийского собора, вопросы Оригена и беседы его с Бериллом были известны современникам, но до нашего времени они не сохранились. Евсевий Кесарийский в своей книге «Церковная история» сообщает о том, что Берилл, епископ Бостры Аравийской, оставил, кроме писем, разные работы, исполненные любви к прекрасному.
