A bidding fee auction, also called a penny auction, is a type of all-pay auction in which all participants must pay a non-refundable fee to place each small incremental bid. The auction is extended each time a new bid is placed, typically by 10 to 20 seconds. Det som än mer skiljer från traditionell auktion är att varje bud kostar pengar och hur tiden som auktionen pågår bestäms. Öresauktionerna har antingen en fast auktionslängd eller en så kallad budgivningstid där auktionen fortsätter så länge bud kommer in inom ett visst tidsintervall. Denna tid är oftast satt till en eller två minuter. Om ett bud kommer in innan budgivningstiden är slut börjar tiden om igen, annars avslutas auktionen.
