Appena giunsero a Montecitorio le notizie relative alla drammatica sconfitta di Caporetto, un ordine del giorno favorevole al governo venne respinto con 314 no e 96 sì: la Camera votò in via amministrativa l'esercizio provvisorio dell'anno in corso, dopodiché - il 26 ottobre - il Capo del Governo annunciò ai due rami del Parlamento le sue dimissioni.
