Bruce Sherman McEwen (January 17, 1938 – January 2, 2020) was an American neuroendocrinologist and head of the Harold and Margaret Milliken Hatch Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology at Rockefeller University. He was known for his work on the effects of environmental and psychological stress, having coined the term allostatic load.

McEwen wurde vor allem bekannt durch seine Arbeiten zum Einfluss von Stress und von Sexualhormonen auf das Gehirn, insbesondere auf Hippocampus und Amygdala. Gemeinsam mit entwickelte er das Konzept der allostatischen Last (allostatic load), der Gesamtbelastung eines Individuums mit wiederholtem oder chronischem Stress und den strukturellen „Kosten“ des Stresses für das betroffene Individuum.
