Προγενέστερα, η πόλη ήταν το διοικητικό τμήμα της Επαρχίας Μπούντα (Bunda District), αλλά το 2007, η πόλη αποκόπηκε από την Περιοχή. Κατά το 2002, η πόλη αριθμούσε 40.404 άτομα, ενώ το 2012, ο πληθυσμός της ήταν 63.001 άτομα. Το 2007, ο συνεταιρισμός διευρύνθηκε μέσω ενος προγράμματος ο οποίος έχει ως τίτλο "Municipal International Co-Operation". Ο συνολικός στρατηγικός στόχος του προγράμματος, είναι η βελτίωση της διοίκησης, των υπηρεσιών και η μέθοδος είναι να τονωθεί η συνεργασία μεταξύ των τοπικών αρχών στην Τίνγκβολ (Tingvoll) και την Μπούντα (Bunda). La nomo Bunda devenis el misprononco de germanoj, kiuj okupis la lokon inter 1804 kaj 1945, antaŭe okupatan de angloj. Kiam la germanoj siatempe atingis la lokon, ili scivolis pri ĝia nomo kaj la indiĝenoj eldiris al ili la nomon "mabhunda". Tiutempe enloĝis tie indiĝenoj de la tribo Sukumoj (svahile Wasukuma). Tiu tribo estas unu el la 120 nuntempaj etnoj, kiuj ekzistas en Tanzanio. Ĝi estas la plej fama kaj granda el la lando. Ili estis ĉasistoj kaj nomadoj. Bunda has had a friendly relationship with the Norwegian Municipality Tingvoll since 1990. In 2007, the partnership was expanded through a program called "Municipal International Co-Operation". The overall strategic goal for the programme is to improve municipal governance and services, and the method is to stimulate the collaboration between local authorities in Tingvoll and Bunda. There are 15 other pairs of municipalities included in the programme. (en)
