The virus causes severe disease in humans in the form of viral hemorrhagic fever and is a Select agent, World Health Organization Risk Group 4 Pathogen (requiring Biosafety Level 4-equivalent containment), National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Category A Priority Pathogen, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Category A Bioterrorism Agent, and is listed as a Biological Agent for Export Control by the Australia Group. - Bundibudgio ebolavirus (еболавірус Бундібугіо, BDBV) — вид вірусів роду Ebolavirus родини філовірусів (Filoviridae) порядку Mononegavirales. Один із збудників небезпечної для людини геморагічної лихоманки Ебола. Вірус вперше виявлений у 2007 році в районі (звідси назва вірусу) у західній Уганді під час епідемії еболи, в результаті якої загинуло 37 людей з 149 випадків захворювання (смертність 25 %). У 2012 році в Східній провінції Демократичній Республіці Конго стався другий спалах епідемії, що спричинив Bundibudgio ebolavirus. Тоді захворіло 57 людей, з який померло 29 осіб (смертність 51 %). - La specie Bundibugyo ebolavirus (sigla: BDBV) secondo la definizione dell'International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) è un virus incluso nel genere Ebolavirus, che è parte della famiglia Filoviridae, ordine dei Mononegavirales. Il 24 novembre 2007 il Ministero della Salute dell'Uganda ha confermato un focolaio di Ebola nel distretto di Bundibugyo. Dopo la conferma dei campioni testati dai National Reference Laboratories degli Stati Uniti e dal CDC, l'Organizzazione mondiale della sanità ha confermato la nuova specie. (it)
