The Centre or the Région du Centre is a region within the province of Hainaut in Wallonia, Belgium. It is part of the Sillon industriel or industrial centre of Belgium. It is located between the cities of Mons (the Borinage), Charleroi and Thuin (the Pays Noir) and Brabant. Its most important town is La Louvière. The region gives its name to the Canal du Centre, between Mons and Thieu, a village near La Louvière. The region had its own newspaper from 1945 to 1987, L'Echo du Centre. There is also a regional television station, Antenne Centre.

- Het Centrum (fr:Centre) is een streek in de Belgische provincie Henegouwen. De streek bevindt zich tussen de agglomeraties van Bergen en Charleroi. Het centrum van het Centrum wordt gevormd door de stad La Louvière. Lange tijd was dit gebied een zeer landelijke streek tussen beide voornoemde steden in. Pas met de ontdekking van steenkool in het gebied kwam er met de industrie een enorme bevolkingstoename. De naam Centre is afkomstig van het Centrumbekken, een steenkoolbekken dat tussen het steenkoolbekken van Charleroi in het oosten en dat van de Borinage in het westen is gelegen en een van de belangrijkste mijnsites van Wallonië was. * Soignies Elle est considérée avec le Borinage, la région de Charleroi, celle de la Basse-Sambre, celle de Liège et celle de Verviers comme l'un des bassins constitutifs du Sillon Sambre-et-Meuse. Elle fut une des régions charbonnières les plus importantes de Belgique au début du XXe siècle. À partir de la fin des années 1940, la région connut une importante immigration italienne. Elle est le foyer d'une tradition folklorique très vivace avec un carnaval dont la figure centrale est le Gille. Le Carnaval le plus célèbre est celui de Binche (reconnu par l'UNESCO) mais d'autres de moindres envergures ont également une vieille histoire tels que ceux de Morlanwelz, d'Haine-Saint-Pierre, de La Louvière ou encore Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont. À noter que cette tradition "gilliesque" est présente un peu partout en Wallonie mais est originaire de la région du Centre. Ces célébrations qui ont lieu les jours Gras (Dimanche, Lundi et Mardi) sont l'un des bastions essentiels de la langue Wallonne. (fr)

- Het Centrum (fr:Centre) is een streek in de Belgische provincie Henegouwen. De streek bevindt zich tussen de agglomeraties van Bergen en Charleroi. Het centrum van het Centrum wordt gevormd door de stad La Louvière. Lange tijd was dit gebied een zeer landelijke streek tussen beide voornoemde steden in. Pas met de ontdekking van steenkool in het gebied kwam er met de industrie een enorme bevolkingstoename. De naam Centre is afkomstig van het Centrumbekken, een steenkoolbekken dat tussen het steenkoolbekken van Charleroi in het oosten en dat van de Borinage in het westen is gelegen en een van de belangrijkste mijnsites van Wallonië was. Door de ontwikkelende industrialisatie in de 19de eeuw, met de aanleg van wegen, spoorlijnen en kanalen, kon het gebied rond La Louvière zich verder ontwikkelen. Naast steenkoolmijnen ontstond er siderurgie (ijzerertsverwerking), metaalconstructie, chemische industrie, houtverwerking en fabrieken voor glas, ceramiek, confectie, cement en bouwmaterialen. In de jaren 1950 en 1960 liep de steenkoolproductie sterk terug en verdween uiteindelijk helemaal. Normaal rekent men volgende gemeenten tot het Centrum:
