Charles Pellat (28 September 1914, in Souk Ahras – 28 October 1992, in Bourg-la-Reine) was an Algerian-born French academic, historian, translator, and scholar of Oriental studies, specialized in Arab studies and Islamic studies. He was an editor of the Encyclopaedia of Islam published by Brill Academic Publishers, and a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres.

Frequentato il liceo di Casablanca, il giovane Charles prese nel 1935 il suo diploma di studi superiori a Bordeaux, conseguendo anche il diploma di arabo presso l'Institut des Hautes Etudes Marocaines. Aveva dapprima preso a studiare la lingua berbera ma, a causa della prospettiva di sbocchi professionali assai ridotti, si era presto orientato verso la lingua araba. (it)
