Charles Weissmann (born 14 October 1931) is a Hungarian-Swiss molecular biologist. Weissmann is particularly known for the first cloning and expression of interferon and his contributions to the unraveling of the molecular genetics of neurogenerative prion diseases such as scrapie, Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease and "mad cow disease".

Als Professor für Molekularbiologie war er in den 1970er-Jahren massgeblich an der Etablierung dieser damals neuen Fachrichtung beteiligt. Anfang der 1980er-Jahre gründete er die Biotechfirma Biogen mit und wurde mit der Klonierung von Interferon weltweit berühmt. Danach spielte er bei der Erforschung des Rinderwahnsinns eine wichtige Rolle. Er lebt in London, Florida und im Loorengut in Zürich Witikon. Il est connu dans la seconde moitié des années 1970 par ses avancées dans la synthèse de l'interféron, avec lequel on pensait pouvoir guérir certains cancers. Au début des années 1980, il crée la société Biogen et industrialise le clonage de l'interféron. Depuis, il a joué un rôle important dans l'étude de l'ESB.
