Chermsideøya (English: Chermside Island) is a 14 km² island north of Nordaustlandet, Svalbard. It is separated from Nordaustlandet by the 1–2 km wide . Two km to the east lies the two smaller Castrénøyane (Nordre Castenøya and Søre Castenøya). Nordkapp (North Cape) on the northern coast is considered the northernmost tip of Svalbard proper, although both Sjuøyane and Karl XII-øya are situated further to the north. Parryøya in Sjuøyane lies some 15 km to the northeast, separated by Nordkappsundet strait.

| - Chermsideøya ist eine Insel in im zu Norwegen gehörenden Spitzbergen-Archipel. Sie liegt nördlich von Nordostland vor der Spitze der Halbinsel Laponiahalvøya. Getrennt sind beide durch den Beverlysund, der an seiner engsten Stelle nur 800 m breit ist. Unmittelbar östlich von Chermsideøya liegen die beiden Inseln der Castrénøyane. Chermsideøya misst in Nord-Süd-Richtung etwa 7 km, in Ost-West-Richtung 5 km. Die Fläche der Insel beträgt 20 km². In zwei Bergen, die nach den Katzenjammer Kids benannt sind, die in Norwegen Knoll und Tott heißen, erreicht die Insel Höhen von 280 bzw. 230 m. Den höchsten Punkt bildet mit 305 m Höhe aber das Kliff am Ostkap. Die Insel ist im Sommer eisfrei mit Ausnahme einer ein Quadratkilometer großen vergletscherten Fläche am Osthang des Knoll. In der Nähe der tief eingeschnittenen Nordkapbucht gibt es einen kleinen Binnensee, den Vinkeltjørna. Die Insel ist nach Herbert Chermside benannt, einem britischen Offizier und Diplomaten, der 1873 an Benjamin Leigh Smiths dritter Expedition nach Spitzbergen teilnahm. The island's two highest peaks are Knoll (280 m) on the southwestern half and Tott (230 m) on the northeastern half, named after the cartoon characters The Katzenjammer Kids, which in Norwegian is named Knoll and Tott. The two mountains are divided by Chermsidedalen (Chermside Valley). Area covered with ice: ca. 5 % of total area, approximately 0,7 km2. (numbers from 1990). The island is named after Herbert Chermside, 1850–1929, later lieutenant-General Sir Herbert Chermside, Governor of Queensland, Australia (1901–07). As lieutenant Chermside, R. E., he accompanied Mr. Leigh Smith on his voyage to Spitsbergen in 1873. (en)
