Communism in Quebec is a social and political movement aimed to reject the socioeconomic, liberal capitalist order and to establish the idea of Commons – common means of production and of exchange, the abolishment of social classes, State, and private property in Quebec and elsewhere. By its subversive nature, the Quebec communist movement has always been repressed and marginalized by the Canadian and Quebec governments (see Section 98 of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Padlock Law and the War Measures Act) . The only Canadian communist federal MP, Fred Rose was elected in Quebec.

- Le communisme au Québec est un mouvement basé sur l'idée socio-politique du rejet de l'ordre social, politique et économique capitaliste libéral établi pour la notion du commun ; ultimement la mise en commun des moyens de production et d'échange et la suppression des classes sociales, de l'État et de la propriété privée sur le territoire québécois et ailleurs. Né d'un schisme du mouvement travailliste, le mouvement communiste au Québec est dans son histoire, pour son caractère et sa nature subversive et sédicieuse, fortement réprimé et marginalisé par les gouvernements du Québec et du Canada (voir Article 98 du code criminel du Canada, Loi du Cadenas et Loi des mesures de guerre), les médias de masse, l’Église et les syndicats catholiques. Le communisme est illégal au Canada de 1931 à 1936, 1940 à 1942 et, au Québec, de 1937 à 1957. Un seul représentant communiste, Fred Rose, fut élu au Parlement du Canada dans la province.
