Die meisten der zahlreichen weiteren marinen Gattungen, die ursprünglich zu den Groppen gezählt wurden, wurden in einer Revision der Systematik der Cottoidei in die Familie der Dickkopf-Groppen (Psychrolutidae) überführt.
